"ON THE FLOOR"

Created shortly after his arrival in Switzerland, Auf dem Boden stems from Alexey Cubas's desire to maintain, through painting, a living connection with his homeland: Cuba. Each work is an abstraction of the worn floors of his childhood, surfaces that bear the marks of time, the imprint of use, and an eroded beauty that remains intact in his memory.

In this series, visual fragments act as emotional vestiges: texture, deterioration, and layers of matter are transformed into a language to address themes such as belonging, absence, and memory. For Cubas, painting these floors was a way of walking on them once again.
