"AUF DEM BODEN"

Created shortly after his arrival in Switzerland, Auf dem Boden emerged from Alexey Cubas’ desire to maintain a living connection with his homeland, Cuba, through painting. Each work is an abstraction of the worn floors of his childhood—surfaces that carry the passage of time, traces of everyday use, and an eroded beauty that remains vivid in his memory.

In this series, visual fragments become emotional remnants. Texture, decay, and layers of material are transformed into a language through which Cubas explores themes of belonging, absence, and memory. For the artist, painting these floors was a way of walking on them once again.
