Visual Artist, Tattoo Artist, and Multidisciplinary Creator
Alexey Cubas was born in 1990 in Media Luna, Cuba. He studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts of Oriente, graduating in 2008. In 2011, he was recognized as a member of Cuba’s National Registry of Artists and Creators. In 2014, he emigrated to Switzerland, an experience that profoundly shaped both his artistic practice and his understanding of identity, place, and belonging.
His painting functions as an abstract visual diary—gestural, material-driven, and emotionally charged. Series such as Auf dem Boden, Routine, Without Filter, and Territories emerge from his immediate surroundings, his migratory experience, and his enduring connection to Cuba. Through layers, repetition, and eroded textures, Cubas transforms personal memories and everyday experiences into a distinctive pictorial language.
Since arriving in Switzerland, he has also built a significant digital presence through his YouTube channel, Alexey Cubas Videos, where he documents his life as an artist, immigrant, and entrepreneur. Through this platform, he has connected with an international audience while reflecting on art, identity, and territory from an intimate and critical perspective.
Today, Cubas is the founder and director of AC Tattoo Studio in Zurich, where he extends his visual language into the medium of tattooing. His abstract and intuitive approach moves beyond traditional tattoo conventions, prioritizing emotional expression, free gesture, and the relationship between the artwork and the body that carries it.
Whether on canvas or skin, his practice is driven by the same artistic concerns: memory, transformation, movement, and human experience. His work exists at the intersection of the autobiographical and the universal, between exile and belonging, materiality and emotion.
