"Ich male für mich"

Created in Switzerland, Ich male für mich (I Paint for Myself) reveals a deeply intimate dimension of Alexey Cubas’ creative process. Faced with the feeling that continuing his artistic career in this new country was nearly impossible, the artist chose to paint without expectations, without seeking approval, recognition, or external validation.

Ich male für mich emerged as an act of resistance and radical honesty. Every gesture becomes an affirmation of existence and inner freedom. Here, painting ceases to be a means of communicating outward and instead becomes a space for dialogue with oneself.

These works contain no concessions and no strategies—only the necessity to create from an authentic and visceral place. They are paintings born without permission, without calculation, and without fear. Works that exist because they could not exist otherwise.
